My Philosphy

Navigating the web should be a simple, enjoyable and inclusive experience, making information easily accessible and interaction clear and instant. In reality, it can at times be a fairly complicated and clunky process as the freedom to publish means standards vary wildly.

This does of course present an opportunity for those who can create a website more like the former and less like the latter - this is hopefully where I come in.

I believe a good website should fulfill 4 main criteria:

  1. Accessibility

Apart from being good practice, it makes perfect sense to make your website useable by as large an audience as possible. From cross browser compatibility to intuitive navigation and legibility, creating an accessibile website is important both commercially and ethically.

  2. Clear & Concise

If you want a user to stay on your site for more than 5 seconds you need to grab and retain their interest. This means that not only should you make the purpose of your site obvious, but also structure the content to make it highly relevant and easy to digest.

  3. Memorable

There are many websites that follow the above two rules but ignore the need to ensure that a site stands out from the crowd. This doesn't mean just using as many fancy animations, colours & graphics as possible, but about making the overall experience of visiting the site as satisfying and memorable as you can.

  4. Standards Based

I have a section dedicated to standards as this is a vital area for any website publisher to consider. Building a site to agreed W3C (world wide web consortium) standards ensures your site will be viewable on as my different browsers as possible while also aiding SEO (search engine optimisation).
